Background |
The CLEC5A gene encodes a member of the c-type lectin domain family 5(also known as MDL-1) , a type II transmembrane protein that localizes to the cell membrane, it is mainly expressed in myeloid cells such as monocytes, macrophages, and neutrophils, and it is also highly expressed in lung tissue and vascular endothelium, which acts as a key pattern recognition receptor, it is required to bind to the adaptor protein Dap12 to activate the Syk downstream signaling pathway, which mediates the innate immune response and inflammatory signaling, the protein encoded by this gene can form a multivalent heterologous complex by binding to various pathogenic ligands such as viruses and bacteria with low affinity, triggering proinflammatory cytokine release and inflammasome activation. |
