Background |
The Igf-1 gene encodes insulin-like growth factor-1(IGF-1) , a multifunctional single-chain polypeptide produced by the liver under the stimulation of growth hormone, which is involved in the regulation of insulin secretion, it plays a key role in promoting cell proliferation, differentiation, regulating growth and development and metabolic balance. Its molecular structure is highly homologous to proinsulin and initiates the PI3K-AKT and Ras-MAPK signaling pathways through activation of the IGF-1 receptor (IGF-1R) , which is involved in insulin resistance, it regulates physiological processes such as bone growth, muscle synthesis, glucose and lipid metabolism, and neural development. IGF-1 level is affected by many factors, such as age, nutritional status, hormone level and disease status, and its abnormality is closely related to acromegaly opposite of microcephaly, diabetes, cardiovascular diseases and tumors. |
