Background |
IL-18 binding protein encoded by IL-18BP gene is a member of immunoglobulin superfamily, which is located on human chromosome 11q13 and has tissue-specific expression pattern, especially in spleen. By producing IL-18BPA, IL-18BPB and other subtypes of proteins, the gene specifically binds to IL-18 cytokines and inhibits their induced IFN-γ production and T cell activation, thus, it plays a key role in negatively regulating the immune response. |
