Background The CD228 gene (formally known as melanotransferrin/MELTF) encodes a glycosylphosphatidylinositol (GPI)-anchored transferrin family glycoprotein, which is a member of the transferrin family, mMFI2 is highly expressed in more than 70% of solid tumors, such as melanoma, pancreatic cancer, mesothelioma, colon cancer, breast cancer and non-small-cell lung carcinoma, but lowly expressed in normal tissues The soluble form (SMFI2) is involved in the diagnosis of Alzheimer's disease, arthritis and other diseases and the delivery of drugs across the blood-brain barrier.
