Description OX40L protein (Ox40 ligand), also known as CD252 or TNFSF4, is a co-stimulatory molecule that belongs to the tumor necrosis factor (TNF) ligand superfamily. It is encoded by the TNFSF4 gene and is a protein associated with the human immune system. OX40L protein was initially discovered on activated antigen-presenting cells and later detected in various immune cell subsets, including dendritic cells, macrophages, B cells, and T cells, as well as in non-immune tissues such as vascular endothelial cells. OX40L protein regulates the activation, proliferation, and survival of T cells by binding to its receptor OX40 (also known as CD134 or TNFRSF4) on the surface of T cells. CD4+ and CD8+ T cells are important types of lymphocytes with critical functions in adaptive immune responses, cytokine production, and immune memory formation, making them central members of the immune system. Research indicates that OX40L protein plays a significant role in promoting T cell survival, enhancing effector T cell function, modulating regulatory T cell (Treg) activity, and sustaining immune memory responses. Additionally, the expression of OX40L protein is associated with autoimmune diseases, inflammatory disorders, graft-versus-host disease, and tumor immunity, making it a potential target for immunotherapy.
