The KIF5B-RET fusion protein is produced by the fusion of the KIF5B (kinesin family member 5B) gene and the RET (Rearranged during Transfection) gene. This fusion protein has been found in some tumors, particularly lung cancer and thyroid cancer. The KIF5B-RET fusion protein exhibits kinase activity, which can activate cell signaling pathways, promoting tumor growth and metastasis. Therefore, the KIF5B-RET fusion protein is considered an important driver of tumors and a potential therapeutic target. BA/F3 cells are a lineage of IL-3 (interleukin-3)-dependent precursor B cells, and certain protein kinases can substitute for IL-3 to enable the IL-3-dependent growth of BA/F3 cells. By using inhibitors to counteract this effect, this mechanism can be utilized for the study of kinase inhibitors.
